Where do Biroskop tools come from?

Our workshop is located in Wrocław, Poland. Our tools are handmade, they are hand inspected and packed by hand for You. In the workshop where they are made, electric machines are used, mainly abrasive machines to facilitate work, but also drills and guillotines. This does not change the fact that the tools in the whole process of creation are turned by human hands. Many of their elements that require precision, such as holes or scraper edges, are machine-finished. This is crucial since we want to provide high quality equipment. However, the final shape of the tool, is given by the author, there are no templates here.

Biroskop is a brand and has its own unique character. The fact is that it is you – customers and observers of Biroskop, who give inspiration and motivation to create.

All tools we design and make are inspired by your needs. We observe, listen and talk with customers / potters in order to satisfy current needs of pottery world.

We put huge effort to make best design, performance and durability.

What characterizes Biroskop tools?

In one shortly-long sentence: They are unique, useful, precise, inspired by real needs, durable beautiful, ergonomic and what important: made by craftsman for craftsman.

Biroskop tools are made of different materials. However, the main determinant is that they are suitable for working with clay, in an alternately dry and wet environment. Some tools also have to withstand high temperatures. By this it is meant that the tools must not warp, break, crumble, disappear or generally change shape during use. Excluding situations in which this change is a natural feature of the tool.

Another determinant is their durability. Tools exposed to friction must have increased hardness and low abrasion. We use wood of tree species such as Amazaque, Teak, Sukupira, Wenge, Zebra, Padouk, Amaranth and many other trees that took roots in equatorial countries. The wood of these species has low abrasion and is highly resistant to prolonged exposure to water. Such wood is also beautiful in its structure, sometimes it even looks magical. Some wood species such as Teak are soft, and handles are mainly made of these. The offer also includes European species such as oak, walnut or fruit trees like cherry.

Metal pieces of our tools are made of different metals, but mostly steel – stainless steel. Always stainless but some parts are made of titanium, tungsten,  tungsten carbide, copper or brass. Some parts of some tools that are exposed to high friction (like dedicated trimming tools) need to be treated specially – for those we use special harder steel types. Those alloys often include chromium, molybdenum and vanadium. Those pieces are hardened and tempered in special kilns basing on strict recipe. After all they are very hard, durable and wear-resistant. During this process they also become stainless. For some tools we use tungsten carbide in order to provide the highest friction resistance. As you see offer is wide – you just should go and explore – we try to provide as many details about particular tools as possible (and required) in description.

It is important that the tools are not only hard and resistant to the conditions in the workshop. They must also be useful and, above all, easy to use. The most important thing is that no additional tools are needed to operate one tool. We focus on simplicity as much as possible. Biroskop tools do not need other objects such as screwdrivers or pliers to operate. Nevertheless, there may be a case that when working in heavier/harder/harder material it will be necessary to use pliers/pliers to tighten the element more securely.

We recommend cleaning the tools and oiling them in order to maintain the quality of workmanship as long as possible. Available maintenance materials can also be found in our offer.

Aestethics

It is known that a tool must work, but at the same time we believe that it must be beautiful and delight every time it is taken in hand. If it could inspire at the same time, that would be amazing. In the workshop where the tools are made, we work with various people who share passion for beauty, aesthetics and usability. We try to make the things we create beautiful and complete. Biroskop tools are an emanation of this.
